Throwing light over Elsinore and the Culture Yard

Over the last 25 years, Hotel Pro Forma has challenged its audience with innovative and different theater productions. In this piece, Hotel Pro Forma and three artists, Ellen Hillingsø, Ellen Nymann and Ellen Friis, will go as visitors to meet six cities. Using research conducted in advance and during an intensive weeklong stay, ELLEN will learn what defines the place. The meeting will turn into a new and spontaneous performance. Starting off with a focus on the cities’ current affairs, the show will take a new form each time it arrives at a new location.

Elsinore, Aarhus, Ballerup, Copenhagen, Svendborg and Silkeborg. Even though these six cities look very much the same on the surface, they are completely different. Each city has it own history, mood, positioning and meaning. The name Ellen means light. Each city seeks its identity, energy and light. It is Ellens task to turn it on.

The ELLEN project is a meeting between the traditions and history of the location and the visitor’s quick look. It is a meeting between the Ellens of the city and the visiting Ellens. It is about the feeling that you belong in a place. It is about the place, from which we see the world.
